Migrant Networks and Destination Choice: Evidence from Moves Across Turkish Provinces

This paper estimates effects of birth place migration networks and other location attributes on destination choices internal migrants conditional migration. We also study heterogeneity in the role these factors for migrant types who differ by skill group, age at migration, reason use data male from three rounds Turkish censuses 1985, 1990 2000 choose among 67 provinces. find that are drawn to provinces with larger networks, relatively better economic conditions, distance is a significant deterrent There are, however, heterogeneities across types. More educated move longer distances rely less choice. Importance labor market conditions increases effect decreases age. Among different play only moving employment reasons matter this group.
